Looking for an original X-mas present?Auction Animal Shelter Bonaire

Saturday December 10th the Bonaire Animal Shelter again organizes the Art and Fun Auction!

The always entertaining fundraiser will be held at Sense. Before the Auction the famous and loved INDONESIAN meal is served between 18:00 and 20:00, tickets a $ 35.- p.p. are required for the meal. The Auction starts at 20:30, and is free and open to the public!

The Shelter still has trouble maintaining the terrain due to lack of funds. Volunteers certainly do a terrific job but they can’t do it all. For example, there is an urgent need to rebuild the kennels we use for the first reception of incoming dogs. The kennels need to be made safer, more hygienic and watertight.

A wide variety of stunning artwork and vouchers has been donated by sponsors and artists! You will be guaranteed to find the perfect Christmas gift to fit every budget! For more info and a look at the auction items go to the auction website. You have the opportunity to make a bid on line. Take a glance at artwork of all different mediums, original jewelry and some really interesting vouchers offered by local businesses. More items will be added in the next two weeks, so keep an eye on it!

All the proceeds go directly to the Animal Shelter and in advance we would like to thank all the people that are cooperating to make this fundraising a big success! (more…)

One of the cutest young pups at the Bonaire Animal Shelter is “Jackie.” She was one of a litter of four puppies. Two of her siblings were sold and she and her sister, “Jill,” were brought into the Shelter to be put up for adoption. Their mother is being sterilized so she can lead a life unencumbered by having unwanted litters of puppies in the future.

One of the really nice things about Jackie is that because she was with the family that owns her mother she was treated very well and consequently is a well adjusted, happy pup. She’s so sweet and used to people and such a friendly one. Jackie is about three months old and looks like she’s wearing a tuxedo with white shoes that contrast so well with her black wire haired coat. She’ll most likely remain a smaller dog but she’s big on personality! Jackie has been examined by the vet, has had her shots, worming and will be sterilized when she’s old enough.

You may see her at the Shelter on the Lagoen Road, open Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. Telephone 717-4989. Big birthday news from the Shelter.

On August 3 they will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Shelter. In the next issue we will have a report from the founder, Louise Rood, on what it was like in those early days. They’ve come a long way, Baby!

Visitor to the island, Michelle Sellars, cuddles up with puppy “Isabel” at the Bonaire Animal Shelter. Michelle is a volunteer at a Shelter in the Los Angeles area and she had to come and see this very well run one here on Bonaire. According to the Shelter managers visitors are always welcome at the Shelter to pet the dogs and cats and play with them.

It’s fun for the people and the animals love it. Little Isabel is only about three and a half months old. She was brought in with her sister who has already been adopted. Isabel is a lovely brindle-gray and brown-with longish hair and a short tail. She’ll remain small, a lap-lover size, and is very affectionate, as you can tell from the photo. She’s not a dominant sort, more of an easy going, life loving kind of girl.

She’s been examined by the vet and declared healthy, has had her tests, worming, shots and will be sterilized when she’s old enough. All this is included in the dog adoption fee of NAf105! Now all she needs is a loving owner who will appreciate her special qualities.

The Shelter is on the Lagoen Road, open Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm, 3 to 5 pm. Telephone 717-4989.

Old license plates to the Shelter

Posted on February 08, 2008 by admin in News | Comments Off

This year Bonaire will be changing license plates. Please bring your old license plates to the Shelter, or call us and we’ll arrange to get them from you. The Shelter has been having great success raising much needed funds by selling these old license plates to the cruise ship tourists and to other tourists during Regatta and other
festival days. Giving the Shelter your used plates helps to keep the Shelter residents fed and cared for as well as helping to fund the sterilization project. More about the sterilization project in an upcoming issue of The Reporter.
