Volunteers needed!
Posted on November 10, 2011 by Marlies in Current Activities | Comments Off
The Bonaire Animal Shelter needs volunteers of all ages. And it’s a fun job too, according to young volunteers, Jordan and Justin. These two boys spend their Thursday afternoons helping out. They especially like playing with the cats. Why do they do this rather than playing video games or fooling around? It’s because, they say, “Animals are important and they need our help.” Great words for all of us! There are all sorts of jobs that volunteers can do from just playing with the dogs and cats (“socializing” they call it) to walking them and giving some obedience training, feeding, giving medications, cleaning up. For a full list of what’s available to do give them a call at 717-4989.

It’s on Kaya Libertador Simon Bolivar, across from Jong Bonaire and Brandaris Café. It’s open Saturdays, 8 am to 5 pm. All proceeds go to help keep the Shelter open.

Kouchi pa Bestia at the Animal Shelter Bonaire

Did you know that you can drop off unwanted, stray or found cats or dogs at the Bonaire Animal Shelter at any time of the day or night, no questions asked? There’s an animal cage (Kouchi pa Bestia) right outside the Shelter gate. It has two separate compartments with water bowls and it’s checked every few hours during the day.
The Shelter receives an average of 1,200 animals each year and the idea is to make it easy as possible for people to put the animals there rather than dump them in the mondi or by the side of the road.

Free treatment of mange on Bonaire
Posted on June 20, 2011 by Marlies in Current Activities, News | Comments Off
The last few weeks the shelter received a lot of complaints regarding dogs that suffer from mange.
Mange occurs when a dog becomes infested with microscopic mites. These mites live on a dog’s skin, digging in and sucking the dog’s blood. They reproduce quickly and are highly contagious. Symptoms of mange can include hair loss, itching and skin inflammation. Mange spreads quickly across a dog’s body if it’s not treated.
The Bonaire Animal Shelter offers free treatment of mange. Call the shelter for more information (0599-7174989).

Dierenasiel Bonaire introduceert ‘diervriendelijk afstandshok’
Posted on February 23, 2010 by Marlies in Current Activities, News | 1 Comment

Animal Shelter’s Annual Art Auction – December 10
Posted on November 27, 2009 by admin in Current Activities | Comments Off
Looking for an original X-mas present?
Saturday December 10th the Bonaire Animal Shelter again organizes the Art and Fun Auction!
The always entertaining fundraiser will be held at Sense. Before the Auction the famous and loved INDONESIAN meal is served between 18:00 and 20:00, tickets a $ 35.- p.p. are required for the meal. The Auction starts at 20:30, and is free and open to the public!
The Shelter still has trouble maintaining the terrain due to lack of funds. Volunteers certainly do a terrific job but they can’t do it all. For example, there is an urgent need to rebuild the kennels we use for the first reception of incoming dogs. The kennels need to be made safer, more hygienic and watertight.
A wide variety of stunning artwork and vouchers has been donated by sponsors and artists! You will be guaranteed to find the perfect Christmas gift to fit every budget! For more info and a look at the auction items go to the auction website. You have the opportunity to make a bid on line. Take a glance at artwork of all different mediums, original jewelry and some really interesting vouchers offered by local businesses. More items will be added in the next two weeks, so keep an eye on it!
All the proceeds go directly to the Animal Shelter and in advance we would like to thank all the people that are cooperating to make this fundraising a big success! (more…)
