Trash to Treasures – Bonaire Animal Shelter’s Pakus di Pruga
Have you visited the Shelter’s Pakus di Pruga yet? It’s the Weekly Garage Sale at Kaminda Liberador Simon Bolivar across from Brandaris Café.
Volunteers staff the shop from 8 am to 5 pm every Saturday. You never know what you’ll find there but there are always plenty of books, clothes, household items…and more.
If you have unwanted items to donate, you may drop them off at the Shelter or if they’re small, like books, you may bring them to the Garage Sale on the Saturday.
Volunteers are needed for the shop too. If you can spare a few hours on Saturdays it would be much appreciated. Plus it’s a fun group to work with! Call the Shelter at
717-4989 for more information.

Sammy, driver Animal Shelter Bonaire

Sammy in march 2011

Good News: Do you remember “Sammy”, the near death, starved, abused and neglected dog that was brought into the Shelter? There was something about him that made the staff decide not to euthanize him after all. With the love and attention he got at the Shelter he turned into a handsome, friendly very special dog.

The good news is that Sammy has been adopted. What a life he’s lived already in his short time. Congratulations, Sammy and to your new owners. May you have a long and happy life together!

Shelter Shots

Posted on March 30, 2011 by Marlies in News | Comments Off

ShotsPuppies Sammy and India get their shots from Shelter staff members Monique  and Marlies, and volunteer Gitta (center). To fight against the deadly Parvo and other diseases these shots should be given to all puppies and dogs on the island.

The first shot in a series is administered when the puppy is six to nine weeks old. Then as an adult they should get the shot every year.

Help the Shelter Cats Keep Their Privy Pretty

Posted on March 08, 2011 by Marlies in News | Comments Off

There appears to be a cat litter shortage on the island and the feline shelter residents need your help. Our cats are very fastidious in their “bathroom habits” and really need clean litter boxes every day. If you happen to be in a store and you see cat litter, please buy a bag (or two!) and drop it off at the Shelter….or at least call the Shelter and let them know where you found it so they can buy it and keep the kitty privies pretty!
