Pet of the week: Walter

Pet of the week: Walter

This week’s column is written by Queen of Cats,Jane Disko Madden, who seems to know what goes on in those furry little heads.

“How can you not smile when you look at Walter? He looks like he got into his mother’s makeup box and decided to paint himself a nice, big, black nose! Walter and his sister Wilhelmina arrived at the Bonaire Animal Shelter as orphans at only two weeks old. A shelter staffer took them home and fed them by hand every three hours until they were old enough to eat on their own….a month- long job that was lovingly performed! As a result Walter is a strong, active and handsome kitten with beautiful grey/green eyes  who welcomes and appreciates human companionship.
He is now 12 weeks old and looking to bring a constant smile and lots of affection to the lucky person who takes him into their home. Better yet, Walter and his sister Wilhelmina would be a delightful pair of loving kittens sure to brighten anyone’s day.”

You may see Walter and Wilhelmina and all the other healthy and social adoptees at the Shelter on the Lagoen Road, open Monday through Saturday, 9 – 1, 3 – 5. Tel. 717-4989.

Tiny Marie

Tiny MarieHere is the tiniest kitten in the cat cage at the Bonaire Animal Shelter. This little grey tabby is named “Marie.” She’s an orphan and she nearly died before she even had much of a life. Some kind children, out biking, found her and her litter mates. It seemed the kittens were chasing the bikes. Marie was so small and starving that she had to go home with Monique to be fed every few hours with a bottle. The other kittens have been adopted and there’s just Marie now. She’s sure to remain a smallish cat due to her first weeks of malnutrition.

But today she’s in fine shape and healthy and so happy to be alive.

You may see her and the other healthy and social adoptees at the Shelter on the Lagoen Road, open Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm and 3 to 5 pm. Tel. 717-4989.
