Shelter
At Animal Shelter Bonaire, we care for around 165 dogs and 70 cats every day—animals who have nowhere else to go. With us, they receive the care, food, and attention they need until we find them a loving home.
Over the years, we’ve grown significantly and are now caring for more animals than ever. This comes with major responsibilities. As a shelter, we rely heavily on donations to cover food, medical care, and housing. Without the support of animal lovers, we simply couldn’t keep going.

Sterilization program
Animal overpopulation is a serious issue on Bonaire. Without intervention, dogs and cats continue to reproduce, leading to more and more animals ending up on the streets. To tackle this problem at its root, Animal Shelter Bonaire offers a free sterilization program.
Sterilization has many benefits:
- Fewer unwanted animals – Prevents unwanted litters and helps reduce the island’s overpopulation.
- Healthier life – Lowers the risk of uterine infections, tumors, and other health issues.
- Less stress and unwanted behavior – Sterilized animals are often calmer, less territorial, and less likely to run off in search of a mate.
- Still great guard dogs – Sterilized dogs don’t lose their natural protective instincts and remain just as effective in guarding your home, property, or family.
- Long-term solution – Sterilization helps us work toward a lasting reduction of the animal overpopulation on Bonaire.
