Dog walking
Want to do something fun and make a dog really happy? Come take one of our shelter dogs for a walk! A walk means a moment outside the shelter, some fresh air, and one-on-one attention for them. For you, it’s a great chance to spend time with a cheerful four-legged friend and enjoy the natural beauty of Bonaire.
Make a dog happy!
Our dogs are available for walks during the shelter’s opening hours. Just send us a message beforehand so we can plan accordingly.
Things to keep in mind:
Can I walk a dog anywhere on Bonaire?
No, many beaches do not allow dogs—even on a leash. Always check the signs at the beach. However, you can walk in areas like between Punt Vierkant and the Salt Pier, or from the Willemstoren to Sorobon, where dogs are still welcome.
Should I bring anything for the walk?
We recommend bringing water and a small bowl, especially when it’s warm. The dogs aren’t used to long walks and may get thirsty more quickly.
Can I take the dog to the city center or a café?
Some dogs love exploring new places, but for others, the busy town center can be overwhelming. Want to stop for a coffee? Just ask us which dog would be a good match for that.
Can I let the dog off the leash during the walk?
No, our shelter dogs must stay on a leash. This is for their safety and to prevent them from getting startled or running off. They love being out and enjoy their walk just as much on a leash!
💡 Tip: Make the outing even more fun with a stop at Luciano’s or Gio’s—ask for a little cup of whipped cream for your four-legged friend. Guaranteed success!
